Casey Girl!

I was so thrilled to receive a call from Casey’s parents, inquiring about a birthday photography session for their girl, about to turn 4. I always get excited about an upcoming session (and a doggie birthday party? Yes, please!), but this was a relief as well, since Casey’s mum had called Four Foot Photography the year before, I called back and left a message, and then did not hear from them again. This happens every once in a while, and I know that sometimes people change their minds, etc, but it always leaves me wondering if I did/said something wrong (artist-types can be a little sensitive!). Turns out, they had taken Casey to a studio for her 3rd birthday portrait – they have her portrait made on her birthday every year, isn’t THAT awesome – but we had met at PAWS of Bainbridge Wagfest, and they wanted a pet photographer for birthday #4, so it was my turn! Casey’s birthday is February 10, and I arrived at their beautiful Bainbridge Island home, balloons in hand, to meet the dog of the hour. A cake had been procured from a doggie bakery on the other side of the water, where Casey goes to swim therapy once a week, since having surgery as a young pup. Now my clients, bar none, are people who genuinely love their pets and value their place in the family. Casey’s parents impressed me even further, with the planning, care, training and spectacular life they are giving her. She is, as Standard Poodles are, VERY smart, and they keep her intellectually stimulated, as well as exercised, socialized and loved. So without further ado, I give you, Casey’s Fourth Birthday:

I had such a great time, I know I am being greedy, but I hope they call me next year! Your parents love you, Casey Girl, and so do I.

Alexis & Peyton

2013-02-05_0009

Seriously, could they be any more adorable? I think not! I had the opportunity to photograph Alexis and her sweet boy, Peyton last summer. They were so gorgeous I almost couldn’t stop – I love, love what I do! Here are a few of my favorite images from their session:

Bear and Barley

I met Rob and Pattie at Bethel Animal Hospital’s Second Chance Carnival in Port Orchard, sharing my tent for some shade, as Barley (a Second Chance guy himself) is a Saint Bernard, so it was much too hot for him. They decided they wanted to do a session with Barley and his best buddy, Bear (I swear, I didn’t strong-arm them!). We met at Manchester State Park, and had a spectacular time with those big, furry darlings. Here are some of my favorites:

Thank you, Rob and Pattie! I look forward to meeting the rest of your crew!

Picasso = Art

Allow me to introduce Picasso! This handsome dude belongs with Jeremiah, who I met at the Gig Harbor Mud Bay store (if you haven’t been there, you must check it out – they have great products and staff).  Thanks to Hollywood in the 90’s, Rotties have a bit of a reputation as tough guys, but I have yet to meet one that was not a big sweetheart, and Picasso certainly falls well within that category. Like good looking men everywhere, he was more than happy to show off his genetic superiority, and pose away. Thank you Jeremiah and Picasso!

A Grand Old Dame with a New Lease on Life?

So a couple of weeks ago I was grabbing my gear, preparing for a shoot with a dog who is deaf (pictures coming soon!). In a moment of insight, I picked up a toy I sometimes use when photographing cats – and it caught the attention of my 19 year old Jasmine, whose kidneys are failing and most strenuous activity for the last year has been ambling to her dish, jumping into the window sill for a little snooze, or complaining loudly if her dinner is a little later than expected (she’d fit right in with the Senior Early Bird Special – get it?).

If you have, or have had an old cat, you might be able to fathom how I stopped everything I was doing, picked up the toy in one hand and my camera in the other and played with her for the next half hour, until my wrist was burning and she looked a little winded. I was more than a little kerflempt, thinking about how she’s lived with me longer than anyone, and how much I count on her being there.

It’s been a complicated relationship, but I adore that little furry body sleeping on my feet at night, even though she’s shedding like nobody’s business, and hacks up a hairball more often than I like to think about. I love you, Missy.

“The bird is mine.”

Fair Warning: Cuteness Alert!

Soooo, if after reading this post you do NOT find yourself wanting a Mini-Aussie pup at least a LITTLE bit, you may be somewhat dead inside. HOW CUTE IS RILEY!? It was nearly impossible to choose my favorites for a sneak peek! Lucky Riley is home in Idaho with his new parents, Emily and Devin (Doesn’t she have just the best hair?). Also pictured is Peter Parker, Riley’s cousin who had his sneak peek on Saturday. Now the hard work is up to Emily, as her sister Claire gifted her with the puppy session and a brag book…she’ll have to choose her favorites! Seriously, Best. Job. Ever.

I can’t tell you how eagerly anticipated Peter Parker and his cousin, Riley, were into the lives of these sisters! Claire is an amazing woman (I know, she looks 18, it’s disgusting), patient, creative and fabulous in every way. She contacted me several weeks ago to let me know that her sister was “expecting” – yup! A Mini Aussie was on his way! She wanted to set up a puppy session as a gift to her sister (how awesome is that?!). If you’ve followed the blog, you met Claire, her husband, Josh, their adorable boys, Matthew and Nathan, and their “super” dogs, Bruce and Lois last summer. Naturally, in meeting the puppies, one caught Claire’s eye and sure enough, she let me know I would be photographing TWO puppies! Bruce and Lois now have a third wheel, one Peter Parker! Here’s a peek at my favorites, with Riley’s sneak peek coming Monday. He is currently on his way back to Idaho with his parents, and Claire and Peter Parker are feeling a little blue, so this is for you, Claire!

I’m a lucky dog…and cat…and dog…and cat, cat, cat

These fortunate felines and catered-to canines are so lucky to live with Ms. Sherry and her family! A more genuine, kind, animal loving person you will not find.
