Prism Light

This week’s creative lighting assignment was a bit more of a challenge than I had anticipated – I started by photographing some beautifully colored leaves in the back yard – pretty blue sky, a little sun flare, it’s all good, right? Except it WASN’T. Back to the drawing board, I went out again today, followed by the resident doggehs. I tried a few more abstract images, then I thought, “Do what you do.” So I did – instead of rainbows and composite images, I created a “reflection” of Zoie/Zurie/Slug Pug/Bobdole, which turned out kind of neat! I will be experimenting with this again – it would be pretty cool at an engagement/couples session. I love the artistic push this lighting challenge is giving me!

Beanie Baby Turns 6!

It is hard to imagine that I have been entrusted with this beautiful, silly, sassy girl for 6 years now! It seems like yesterday we brought her home, but on Friday we celebrated H’s 6th birthday with several of her friends, Auntie Jessi, Grammy Kathy and Sandee, unicorns and rainbows.

We colored, made unicorn T-shirts, crafted, had lunch, decorated cupcakes and tried our best to break open the pinata – I know a few girls who are ready for baseball, come spring!

Howe Farm Location Kitsap County Photographer ~ Four Foot Photography

Howe Farm in Port Orchard is one of my favorite settings for photographing, kids, couples, dogs, families, seniors! There are many textures and settings within a short distance, which makes variety a shoe in! I went out the other evening with a “Golden Hour Landscape” assignment, and then my kiddos started running and jumping, and well, photobombed my landscape shoot. I added a few images from other sessions to demonstrate some of the possibilities.

Winter Photo Challenge – Week 1: Natural Light Backlighting

I try to focus {bad photographer pun intended} on one aspect of my business to improve upon each year – my subject for 2014 is lighting, most specifically artificial light, as I have primary used natural light for my photography, with some fill flash as necessary.  Really ALL of photography is about light, and precisely how much is let in to the camera via shutter speed, aperture and ISO.  Light affects not only how we see the image, but how we feel when we see the image. ANYHOO, the Photography Awesomesauce Winter Challenge came across my desk at just the right time, and I decided to jump in, so for the next 22 weeks there will be posts of images taken in conjunction with the weekly challenge.  This week was about backlighting with natural light, and it was, well, kinda dark in my part of the world yesterday and today, so the images I had in mind didn’t quite work out, but this is a Lego robot built by my son, and he wanted a picture of it, so here it is!

It is a very cool robot, and there is a mini-figure inside with “controls”. I love that boy.
