Supermodels on Superbowl Sunday

Absolutely the only downside to being a pet photographer is massive pet envy, and it’s not easy being green. Carmen and Hurley (Mastiff!) are not only good looking, they have the mellow demeanor of their human caretaker and I love, love them! They also share their home with 2 human teenagers and 4 kitties – one elusive feline is not pictured, but I think you have to agree, these three are super photogenic! Thank you, A, for welcoming me into your home, and allowing me to play with the four foots!

Tumbler-ific!

I blogged last summer about the fantastic experience our family had at the Kitsap Humane Society, purr-curing Tumbler, kitty-in-residence at my dad and step-mom’s house; However, at that time I had NO idea of the scope and breadth of importance one little cast-off could have on his housemates. My dad retired at the end of August, and Tumbler has eased the transition fantastically. Tumbler’s neurological disorder is now nearly invisible – he has gained 4 pounds and can now jump up on inappropriate things, no longer stumbles, and is an endless source of entertainment. Dad and Tumbler nap together, play Tinkertoys and all sorts of games I didn’t know cats play. Tumbler waits outside the bathroom while Dad showers, and I’ve heard that my dad is even the “box attendant” – now that is love. We are constantly learning new things about Tumbler – we don’t always think to ask, so he has taken to writing letters to my kids. Nimble with the keyboard, he dictates to Dad when the computer is not available. I do not have conversations with my dad without him bringing up what a great cat he has. It is truly impossible to think of  life without him – thank you KHS!

I get by with a little help from my friends…

It can be hard to be the blog dog…in the rainy winter months… when you’re the muse and your person is working on some new techniques…it’s good to have some supportive (and cozy) friends!

This photo got me thinking especially today about all the friends who have helped me with my business – whether you trusted me to capture images of your furbabies and kids, watched my kiddos so I could so I could take those photos, shared some knowledge, listened to my ideas, showed my work to your friends, advised me in a workshop setting, printed products I was proud to deliver, “liked” my Facebook page (www.FB.com/FourFootPhotography), subscribed to the blog (click “Follow” up above!), participated in a contest or provided an opportunity for me to display some samples at your event or business, I COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU! Thanks for the love.

Krista & Baby E

I had the opportunity to photograph such a great family in January. I thought they were styled perfectly (LOOOOOVVE me some toddler boots!). Mom was so calm and mellow (with a baby and a two year old!) that the baby fell asleep, Dad was very cooperative and into it – loved them! Krista’s doll is named “Baby E” and they were a crack up. I thought it was so sweet that she kept kissing her baby brother, until I heard her momma admonish her, “No biting.” Oops! It looked like she was kissing him…

Austin, Kelsey & Mr. Snickers

I was able to spend a fun afternoon in December with Austin & Kelsey, and here’s a peek at the results. They are such great kids, smart and honest and funny – they are lucky to have such a terrific mom (who better be ready, because I’m getting her in the picture next time!).  And what can I say about Mr. Snickers, except isn’t he just the cutest thing? LOVE!

Missing Aimee

It has been a crazy month! I have been neglectful in my posting – not only has it been crazy nutso around here with holidays, a never ending to do list, snow, company and paperwork, it seems so many friends are having hard times with health, relationships and loss I was hesitant to write about things that seem superfluous. To really get to where I am, I would encourage you to check out my friend Pat Rhoads’ blog, missingaimee.blogspot.com . I like to say that Pat and I ran cross country together in high school, when in fact, we started and finished running in the same places, but the rest of the time his dust had settled by the time I trotted by. I was so happy for him when we met up at our *ahem*-year reunion and I met his lovely wife and baby girl Rowan, who is just 6 months younger than my Hailey. Aimee was one of those people I instantly wanted to be friends with – we chatted a bit and I liked her even more. She was the me I hoped to be. Although I had good intentions, and followed Pat’s adventures on Facebook, I didn’t see Pat and Aimee again until this past summer at an all-school reunion in Ocean Shores. Seeing Aimee and Pat again was so fun for me – although I got a little of the “Honey, your weird high school friend I don’t know is stalking me” vibe… I just felt like I knew her. I told her, “I love my husband and have a great marriage, but YOU are making him look bad!” I explained how Pat never posted anything about her without prefacing her name with an adjective; “The Amazing Aimee Rhoads”, “The Beautiful Aimee Rhoads”, “My Lovely Wife”, and so on. And it was so obviously genuine, second nature. She demurred and said, “I’m not on Facebook much.” “Oh,” I said, “I’m pretty sure he doesn’t just post it on Facebook!” She smiled and laughed. Just a lovely, gracious person. I don’t know when I have seen two people more appreciative of each other, having so much fun and so aware of their blessings. On December 18, Pat lost his beloved wife, Aimee, in a tragic accident while on vacation. She leaves behind a grieving husband, a 3 1/2-year-old daughter, her mother, her brother, her clients and a whole network of people who depended on her for wisdom, light and love. Pat’s blog, while I cry just thinking about it, is a beautifully written tribute to his wife and the life they created together. He writes with honesty, humility and grace and I would encourage you to read it, it will change you. Pat and Rowan have lots of support, bravery and great faith, and they will be ok, but never the same. He has been grateful for the outpouring of affection, and the number of lives Aimee touched in her 36 years. The impression Aimee made on me was quite common for her, according to what I heard at her memorial service and what I’ve read on Facebook and the blog (for those who don’t read a lot of blogs, start at the bottom, it’s the beginning).

That said, I have a TON of photos to share, and I’m hoping they bring as much happiness to you as they do me. Here’s to appreciating what we have, and expressing gratitude for our many blessings.

A frustrating effort…

But so worth it to review all the great times I had with so many gorgeous furbabies in 2011! My thanks to my clients, friends, family and all the furry, hairy, wagging, purring, drooling, whinny-ing buddies I got to meet! I love seeing these sweet things loved and cared for. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…Best. Job. Ever. Thank you!  http://youtu.be/rdUikFCsPkU
