Hunter becomes the Hunted…

Poor Hunter is quite used to having his photo taken (I mean, really, just look at him, isn’t he fabulous?), but he was not prepared for the industrial click of “Big Momma,” my Canon. Hunter, who is one year old, lives with Tobey (see the previous post), Ally and Mr. Sprinkles (although he is not granted unsupervised visitation with Mr. Sprinkles, a Betta fish) . Sometimes Tobey is a little much for Hunter, and I added “stranger danger” and The Click. He was on High Alert, but was coolly professional, nonetheless. I think you’ll agree that Hunter’s markings make him one Super Model!

Dodge – er, rather, Dog Ball!

Introducing Tobey! Tobey is a 4 year old  Scottish Terrier mix, who was adopted from the Kitsap Humane Society when he was just a pup. Tobey looooves to play fetch and is uber-fast. He loves his family – Ally and her mom, his feline brother, Hunter, and new fishy friend, Mr. Sprinkles.  Hunter and  Mr. Sprinkles will be featured in upcoming blog posts, and all three will be displayed by Four Foot Photography at Pet Town (where Ally works) very soon – I will post again when the photos are up! I’m so glad Tobey has such a great home, I super wanted to tuck him in my camera bag and bring him home – he is tons of fun, such a happy guy!

Fair Warning: Cuteness Alert!

Soooo, if after reading this post you do NOT find yourself wanting a Mini-Aussie pup at least a LITTLE bit, you may be somewhat dead inside. HOW CUTE IS RILEY!? It was nearly impossible to choose my favorites for a sneak peek! Lucky Riley is home in Idaho with his new parents, Emily and Devin (Doesn’t she have just the best hair?). Also pictured is Peter Parker, Riley’s cousin who had his sneak peek on Saturday. Now the hard work is up to Emily, as her sister Claire gifted her with the puppy session and a brag book…she’ll have to choose her favorites! Seriously, Best. Job. Ever.

I can’t tell you how eagerly anticipated Peter Parker and his cousin, Riley, were into the lives of these sisters! Claire is an amazing woman (I know, she looks 18, it’s disgusting), patient, creative and fabulous in every way. She contacted me several weeks ago to let me know that her sister was “expecting” – yup! A Mini Aussie was on his way! She wanted to set up a puppy session as a gift to her sister (how awesome is that?!). If you’ve followed the blog, you met Claire, her husband, Josh, their adorable boys, Matthew and Nathan, and their “super” dogs, Bruce and Lois last summer. Naturally, in meeting the puppies, one caught Claire’s eye and sure enough, she let me know I would be photographing TWO puppies! Bruce and Lois now have a third wheel, one Peter Parker! Here’s a peek at my favorites, with Riley’s sneak peek coming Monday. He is currently on his way back to Idaho with his parents, and Claire and Peter Parker are feeling a little blue, so this is for you, Claire!

Walking the walk…

In case you’ve wondered if I practice what I preach, I took a few snapshots around my house today..

All except the metal in the dining room are traditional canvas, stretched on 1  1/2″  wooden frames, 16 x 16″ to 24 x 36″ – go big or go home, in this case, both! Just two are my own pets. I’m a firm believer in only having things on your walls that you love, things that bring you joy. In my house it is mostly photos of my kids and clients, with a few other pieces that I just love. Oh, and also a canvas I brought home from a garage sale that my husband says looks like the Apocolypse…Oops! Not to push the minimalist over the edge, but our homes often have wall space we don’t see – think over doorways and bookcases, between windows – in addition to the traditional space over the sofa. Often the size people are most familiar with (8 x10″) is what they think of first. Here’s a visual aid from Erica Clark Photography that demonstrates different sizes: http://tinyurl.com/6wcuxfr

Cookie!

I’m headed out, taking the kiddos and the Blog Dog to the beach for a few days for Spring Break, but I couldn’t leave without sharing a photo! I have more coming next week (a little behind…Who, me? But at least the taxes are done!)

Say hello to Cookie, of Cookie’s Pet Corner and Wash, right here in Port Orchard!  You can find Cookie at her place of business nearly every day (she takes Sundays off, although the business is open and nail trims are available for $5). Cookie’s favorite employee, Dan, is planning a pet-centric event this summer, and is looking for fun theme ideas – stop by, email or call to share your thoughts! I’ve already put my two cents in, I know you have some great ideas. cookiespetandwash@comcast.net or 360-519-2100, 1010 Bethel Ave.

I was amazed again last week after shopping in three local pet businesses (I know, I have a problem!) at the wealth of knowledge freely shared by those working in the pet industry. Dan had a product in mind for my elderly feline, and I evesdropped as Arin at Pet Town helped a customer register her puppy for spaying at The Humane Society, even offering to deliver the paperwork the next day when she volunteered. Our local vets, groomers, retail outlets, trainers and pet sitters really know their stuff, and are so helpful and kind.  These folks know about pets, products, classes, services and so much more! I am grateful to know them.

I’m a lucky dog…and cat…and dog…and cat, cat, cat

These fortunate felines and catered-to canines are so lucky to live with Ms. Sherry and her family! A more genuine, kind, animal loving person you will not find.

Not quite time for bunnies yet, so here’s the tortoise!

I have mentioned before that my family has been very supportive of my business…perhaps no one more than my cousin, Karena, who has a seemingly never-ending supply of critters available for model calls! Two Golden Retrievers, chameleons, tree frogs, fish, a tiny swimming turtle, electric blue lobster, a pregnant Guinea Pig, three gorgeous blonde boys (how lucky are they?) and more! Watch out when I get a macro lens! This is Biggie, inherited by Karena and her husband, Andrew a few years back – he went from serving platter size to ginormous, apparently preferring the Great Northwest to Southern California. When last I heard, he was 65 lbs! My favorite thing about Biggie is that he eats dandelions – their yard is gorgeous! We’ll be doing a more extensive shoot when the weather warms up a bit!

Titan and Chai

I love a happy ending…especially when it is more beginning than ending! Meet Titan and Chai, a couple of rescue puppies that have found their forever home. Titan is an 11 month old American Staffordshire Terrier, who came to Port Orchard from a California shelter. He is currently taking obedience classes, and his people have high hopes for his higher education, and what he will do beyond the basics (modeling, perhaps?). Titan is a big, sweet love! He is also passionate about making his sister, Chai (just 5 1/2  months!), feel comfortable and confident. These two love to play! Chai has some agility in her future. And seriously, those eyes! Those ears! It was all too much for this pet photographer! I was fortunate to meet them at Jackson Park in Port Orchard last week for a session, on a beautiful, sunny day.
